About this list
Some parks and squares have chessboards built into stone tables, and some public spaces have a giant board on the ground with pieces you move by hand. In Barcelona they include the stone tables of the Sant Antoni superblock, boards in the Parc del Carmel, giant sets at Plaça de les Glòries and in the garden of the Biblioteca de Catalunya, and street chess with a giant board on Plaça Vila de Madrid.
On Sunday afternoons from spring to autumn a meet-up gathers players in the Parc de la Ciutadella, and the benches of Plaça de Catalunya see informal games. Outdoor boards come without a schedule: a table may sit empty for weeks and fill up on a sunny weekend, and giant pieces may be stored away, damaged or only brought out on request. Bring your own set to a stone table.
