About this list

These are places to play where anyone can come, or where visitors are welcome: club evenings open to non-members, café and bar chess nights, a civic-centre group, public stone tables and street chess. It is the shortest route to a game if you are visiting Barcelona or have just moved here.

In the city they range from an open Monday each month at Torrenegra, near the Sagrada Família, and Saturday games at the Casinet d'Hostafrancs to the Sunday meet-up in the Parc de la Ciutadella, chess nights in Ciutat Vella bars, a cocktail bar in the Eixample built around the game and an open group at the Barceloneta civic casal. Outside it, clubs in L'Hospitalet, El Prat, Castelldefels and Badalona take visitors. Open does not always mean free, and welcome does not mean every day, so check the day and any fee with the organiser.
